The Rhodopes

 

83% of the territory of the Rhodopes are situated in the southern Bulgaria and 17% - in Greece. The Rhodopes are bordered on the north and east by the Trakiiska lowland and on the west by Rila and Pirin.

 

The highest peak here is Perelik (2192m). The Rhodopes are one of the oldest mountain chains.

In this mountain one can observe very interesting natural phenomena such as caves, defiles, rocky pyramids and rock mushrooms. Some of well-known kinds are:
